My now 3 year old son did everything he could possibly do to avoid going on the potty. I have heard that potty training boys is more difficult and it sure seemed that way. We just had a little girl so I won't find out for a while but I was told potty training girls is a breeze. It took 3 and a half months to get him completely trained. At 18 months he pooped on the potty two times, which I now believe was some sort of bizzare toturous tease that gave us a taste of what could happen. It wasn't until two and a half until we really decided to give it a go.
The peeing wasn't that bad. We bought him one of those plastic potties and baited him with his favorite candy of the week and he was pretty cooperative. He had plently of accidents and still does occassionally but for the most part that wasn't bad. When it came ot the poop. That's when it hit that fan (so to speak). He absolutely refused to poop on the potty.
Someone warned me that when you potty train child to not push because you can give a child a complex that will stick with him for life. I took that to heart and made every effort that I could to not push too hard. There were times that I was ready to explode and boy was my patience tested. I would have offered him anything to just poop and I did. Luckily it was just a trip to Chucky Cheese's that I had to pay out.
I never thought he would get it, but he did. I know how stressful and crazy potty training toddlers can make you as a parent. but just keep it together and try to just wait it out. We all went thought it!
